Tech Update

Mom recently put up a blog on what set our projects back. Yes, we have had personal stuff going on, like my Dad’s continuing health problems, but what slowed me down the most was directed asshattery.

We didn’t say anything before this on professional advice. Not giving the feedback to hackers was quite deliberate and I sincerely hope it did help get some of them caught out.

I figure that you guys should know about it too, because the hacks that my mother mentioned began at a particular point in time but didn’t stop for YEARS. We had some help and advice but the jerks had a lot of details to work with and I lost so much stuff, digital and hardware. It also made fixing some things nigh impossible. Awhile back, my poor compy was killed by a hacker. One of the many hack attacks that destroyed so much data nearly caused the motherboard to catch fire- the machine started to smoke! The heat destroyed my RAM and motherboard. My poor machine had to be sidelined for some months.

What this boils down to is that I had to rebuild a lot of stuff, including gifts for people, game models, and a bunch of Sailor Moon goodies, because of a bully (or three.) It’s making the repairs to my early Sailor Moon models a royal pain. I’ve fixed what I can reasonably fix and need to move on to other tasks, like rebuilding the character models I wasn’t able to archive before the hacker’s “visits.”

Yes, I scan and rescan anything and everything I have before sharing it online, though actually those vandalizing our creative output never seemed interested in adding anything nasty, they stuck to destruction.

Okay, now on to the good news. While I thought I had more saved archives than I did (some were corrupted), it turned out I had a few more back-up archives working that the hacker had not reached. Most are from pretty early on, but it’s enough to get me going again. Specifically, models permanently gone still include entire folders associated with later game build trials from when we were testing game engines, the crystal candy bowl, the flash game that went with the candy bowl, some rigged characters, expansions for the previous house we had on wrytersfyre, the original scene files for most of my Sailor Moon freebies (especially a dress I was fixing), a number of nice architectural pieces (gazebos, castles, cabins, fountains) , one guy’s wizard staff, and (ironically) the entire fan age that was the last project we had been working on for Mom’s old fangroup before all went septic. That last project is likely to stay dead. We don’t feed trolls.

Thankfully, the last outfit I showed you guys was archived, so I didn’t have to redo too much.
